Stationary electrical energy storage technology for global energy sustainability: A review

Today our life depends on electricity. With increase in demand, requirement of electricity generation is also increasing day by day. Energy should be transferred from fossil fuel to other energy sources. Stationary electrical energy storage technology is reported to be safe, flexible, unlimited and reliable. Goal of global energy sustainability is to replace the fossil fuel by renewable energy and to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. This paper describes the requirements and various challenges of global energy sustainability. The paper also presents the role of energy storage in electricity supply network, different electrical energy storage technologies, control and power conditioning system, comparison of high power technologies including various important high power applications in research and industry.
