High accuracy measurement of vehicle RCS using range-Doppler matching method

In terms of radar cross-section (RCS) measurement of a large-scale target such as a vehicle, far-field radar test condition is hard to meet due to the size limitation of the microwave anechoic chamber especially for millimeter-wave radar. When it is measured in an outdoor environment, the background clutter will become a key factor which degrades RCS accuracy. To deal with this issue, a moving target's RCS measurement method with high-precision matching approach in range-Doppler domain is proposed in this paper. The RCS fluctuation can be reduced to a very low level by using the local reference functions with time shift in range domain and the Chirp-Z transform in Doppler domain. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method are investigated by the simulation results.
