Development of a PSS/E tool for power-flow calculation and dynamic simulation of VSC-HVDC multi-terminal systems

This paper describes the implementation of a PSS/E tool for power-flow calculation and dynamic simulation of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) multi-terminal systems based on Voltage Source Converters. The tool is valid for AC/DC grids with arbitrary topology and makes it possible to seamlessly include a HVDC grid into existing AC cases in PSS/E. The paper includes comparison with a detailed electromagnetic model developed in Matlab + Simulink + SimPowerSystems and with the available models in PowerFactory (DigSilent). Simulation tests carried out with the CigréNordic32A system are also included, in order to illustrate the potential of the tool developed.
