Modeling, analysis and design of a dual-input ZVS DC/DC converter

In this paper, a novel dual-input DC/DC topology is presented. The converter can boost the different voltages of two power sources to a stable output voltage for the load demand. It integrates two boost converts with shared diode and filtering capacitor. Zero voltage switching (ZVS) of all switches is achieved without auxiliary circuit. Hence, the switching losses of the power semiconductors can be reduced. The converter demonstrates the advantages of simple circuit structure, small components count, simple control circuit, and small output voltage ripple. Theoretical analysis and modeling are detailed in this paper. In addition, experimental measurements are used to verify the performance of the dual-input converter. A 218 mW circuit prototype, which converts two 1 V DC voltage sources to a 3.3 V DC with a 73% conversion efficiency at 200 kHz switching frequency is designed and tested to verify the proof of concept.
