Coupled inductor based multi-phase buck converter for magnet power supply

This paper presents design and control of the coupled inductor based multi-phase buck converter for magnet power supply. Using the multi-phase buck structure and inter-leaved operation, we were able to reduce the output current ripples significantly. The coupled inductors for each two phases are adopted to reduce the number of cores and output current ripples. The circuit operates in continuous conduction mode, so it experiences less current ripples and can achieve higher efficiency than in the discontinuous conduction mode. The effects of parasitic components are considered to improve the model accuracy and dynamic performance. We take the parasitic components into account to construct the dynamic model of the proposed converter and used it to design the feed-forward and feedback controller. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of proposed circuit topology and control scheme.
