Emission Enhancement of Surface Plasmon Coupled Blue LED With a Surface Al Nanoparticle

Emission enhancement of a radiating dipole at a desired emission wavelength in blue range coupling with a surface plasmon (SP) resonance mode induced on a nearby surface Al nanoparticle (NP) is demonstrated. Meanwhile, increasing the size of the NP and utilizing a high refractive index dielectric layer to cover the NP are effective approaches to a spectral red-shift of the SP resonance mode of Al, the location and direction of the radiating dipole also play important roles in the SP coupling effect. Such advantages make surface Al NP be an alternative low-cost and simple technique used in SP-coupled light-emitting diodes.
