Optimisation of MAC layer to mitigate the effect of increased mobility in VANET

Lately the concepts of smart cities, smart highways and automated vehicles have been rigorously promoted in literature and it depends on the maturity of technology based on VANET (Vehicular Adhoc Network). Even though VANET can be considered as an enabling networking technology to realize smart capabilities in congested city scenarios. However there are many challenges linked with the network and MAC Layer. A lot of work has been reported in the literature related to routing protocols but the literature is sparse for the MAC Layer Optimisation. So considering the MAC Layer Optimisation as the main target, the work has been done in this paper. In doing so effect of mobility on the Selection of Queue Size in MAC Layer has been considered. In this paper extensive simulations have been done for the optimisation of MAC Layer in terms of Queue Size. The simulation results in terms of QoS parameters like Packet Collision Rate, Packet Drop Rate, Throughput Rate and Broadcast Rate have been used to observe the effect of mobility and to achieve the optimum queue size.
