Sleeve monopole antenna with top load for breast cancer detection

Microwave imaging is an emerging technology which provides a non-invasive diagnostics tool for the breast cancer detection. It is the most preferable technique among the available technologies in recent times. Antennas u s e d in such technology are desired to have wide bandwidth as well as small dimensions. Choosing a proper frequency band is also a challenging task as it is a tradeof f between the resolution and the penetration depth. Sleeve monopole antenna with a top load is presented in this paper. It is designed and simulated i n the frequency r a n g e 0.5–3 GHz. The antenna parameters are optimized with the help of High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) to obtain the impedance match over the required frequency range.
