Novel adaptive hysteresis current control of bidirectional three phase PWM converter under reduced switching scheme

Bidirectional AC/DC power conversion has become very essential for any power electronic based industry. Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) Converters can be suggested as the best solution for rectifier as well as inverter modes of operation to achieve bidirectional power flow. In rectifier mode of operation, the converters are controlled to deliver regulated and ripple free DC output with high quality of AC power at the input side. During the inverter mode of operation, the DC power available at the DC bus is fed back to the AC grid without injecting harmonics or reactive power into the grid. This paper proposes a hysteresis current controlled three phase PWM converter with reduced switching loss. Instead of a fixed hysteresis band, an adaptive hysteresis band is proposed for the reduced switching PWM converter in order to ensure near constant switching frequency of operation. The dynamic and steady state performance of the proposed converter is analyzed with Matlab/Simulink simulation and verified with hardware results.
