Introduction to FC-TBSR based SVC for Voltage Regulation and Reactive Power Compensation

This paper introduces operation and control of fixed capacitor thyristor binary switched reactor. The proposed system is used for Voltage Regulation and Reactive Power Compensation of the transmission system. It consists of reactor banks, arranged in binary order steps with fixed capacitor is referred as FC-TBSR. Normally we use SVC (TSC+TCR) for reactive power compensation and voltage regulation. But this type of SVC has some inherent drawbacks such as harmonics, more losses in TCR, SVC required the additional filter for harmonic reduction, the cost of SVC is more due additional Filter. To avoid these drawbacks a new FC-TBSR compensator has been proposed.
