The application of wavelet transform for identification of single phase to earth fault in power system

The paper proposes to apply the wavelet transform for fault location in the electrical distribution networks. The most common fault type in electrical distribution medium voltage networks is a single phase to earth fault. The proposed method is based on relation between wavelet energy of the transient zero sequence current in the fault and non-fault feeders. The feeder, which contains the maximum wavelet energy, is a fault line. An algorithm can be applied in the on-line mode. The authors offer an approach to de-noising the zero sequence voltage. It will allow definition of the natural resonant frequency using the Welch arithmetic.
