Iterative techniques for assessment of electrical power system structural reliability

This paper considers iterative calculating techniques assessing structural reliability indices (SRIs) of electrical power system (EPS), when “cutoff” failures are taken into account. It proposes two different techniques for network reduction of external EPS at the stage of assessing SRIs of a selected node. The first technique is based on a mono-base model, while the second technique is based on a poly-base model. The paper shows that a poly-base model that, in fact, has higher accuracy could be reduced to a mono-base model which is more convenient for practical calculations. Case study considering EPS with nodes of rank 3, supports high computational efficiency of the proposed iterative techniques.
