Influence of HAMT array of using CFD with fan and porous media

A numerical calculation method of Horizontal Axis Marine Turbine (HAMT) arrays is considered in this paper. For simulating the HAMT array, the author considered using fan and porous media for investigating the model. The mechanism of fan and porous media is able to attenuate energy and it reduce numerical efficiency. The fan model can be modeled without defining a blade shape in detail and it is possible to further consider the rotational effect. Incorporating the effect, an analysis is suitable for the surrounding flow. However, the fan model increases flow rates so that porous media is set in this study to reduce flow velocity artificially. The numerical calculation with staggered spacing of 7 fans with porous media is presented in two different configurations. As a result, it suggested that more than 2.0D lateral spacing is necessary for the tidal array.
