A novel hardware efficient algorithm for impulse noise filtering with motion estimation

In the present scenario with the video capture equipment made simple and easily available video processing plays a vital role in various applications from domestic recording to defense. One of the major requirements of the applications is to make processing faster and real time, thus reconfigurable platforms such as Field Programmable Gate Array [FPGA] can be used for such applications. In this study the impulse noise acquired during video capture and also video blur are effectively removed using adaptive spatio-temporal switch [ASTS] with motion compensation technique. Finally the video is enhanced using contrast enhancement by segmentation process. The algorithm is developed on Xilinx ZedBoard Zynq 7020 kit. The resultant video was observed in a monitor connected to HDMI output of the development kit.
