Cyber security issues in conductor temperature and meteorological measurement based DLR system

Overhead lines are important part of any power system. The load capability of an overhead line can be controlled by a dynamic line rating (DLR) system. These systems can evaluate ampacity of overhead line conductor using direct measurement of all necessary parameters in a real time. Every DLR system relies on the use of a set of sensors that are measuring in real time and are connected to data acquisition server. In this paper we present a DLR system with sensor for conductor temperature measurement and nearby weather-station. Sensor devices and weather-stations are essentially embedded systems relying on GPRS connection to acquisition server. These systems are vulnerable and information that they are providing is of high importance, thus, there is need for a set of cyber security measures for providing protection from a range of threats and malicious activities. It also allows the system to operate safely and effectively up to its full dynamic rating.
