Optimal control law for minimization of active power overshoot due to water hammer effect in a hydro unit

This paper investigates transients due to water hammer effect during hydro unit active power variation. New optimal control law minimizing active power initial negative excursion is developed and simplified for implementation in real control systems. Simulation of several control laws applied to linear and nonlinear models of hydro unit proves the better performance of proposed law.
