Solar radio observations with the Expanded Owens Valley Solar Array

The Expanded Owens Valley Solar Array is an array of 13 2.1-m antennas for solar observations and two 27-m antennas used for calibration and night-time research. The array is currently undergoing commissioning, and will initially cover the 2.5-18 GHz frequency range with about 500 frequency channels within 1 s. The array will eventually operate from 1-18 GHz. This paper introduces the instrument design, and discusses its capabilities and expected performance for solar radio imaging spectropolarimetry. These capabilities are illustrated with one of the dozens of solar bursts already recorded with the instrument in a non-imaging mode.
