Software capability rating using system testing scores

This paper focuses on establishing a mechanism to perform capability rating to the software under test by exploiting the results from system testing. The rating is given based on the scores obtained from test strategies imposed to the software upon completion of system testing. Each test case is assigned with a fix score, in which the score is deducted accordingly when particular test case has defect. Based on the accumulated test cases scores, individual score for particular test strategy is calculated before being regulated with scores from other test strategies to become final score. The final score is then mapped with the score definition table to get the final capability rating for software. The results shows that the proposed method of using system test case results can be exploited for software capability rating based on scores from various testing strategies imposed to software under test. This capability rating serves as early indicator to determine how good and capable the software will perform in its operating environment prior to the release as well as demonstrating the stability of the features offered by the software.
