Efficient 2nd order full band digital IIR integrator design using Cuckoo search algorithm

An optimization approach to design an efficient 2^nd order infinite impulse response (IIR) digital integrator (DI) is proposed using Cuckoo search algorithm (CSA). The unique feature of the proposed approach has been the formulation of the condition for obtaining ideal DC frequency response which has been attained by forcing the sum of the z-term coefficients in the denominator equal to zero during optimization. Optimization of the 2^nd order DI was performed for minimum integral of absolute error (IAE) between magnitude frequency responses of ideal and the optimized designs. The performance index such as IAE in full Nyquist band of the proposed design is compared with the several other recently reported 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th order DIs designed using various other optimization techniques. The comparative analysis by using frequency response and Absolute magnitude error (AME) clearly indicates the superiority of CSA based design.
