LiBek II: A novel compression architecture using adaptive dictionary

Data compression is a science of representing actual information in a more compact form by reducing its size to some extend. Reliable and efficient data compression accompanies least memory usage and less computational complexity. This work proposes a lossless compression technique for the efficient compression of both images and text files. LiBek II is an adaptive dictionary based algorithm in which data encoding is done by repeated searching process for finding subpatterns in a variable window of previously encoded data bits. In image compression, the decimal equivalent of pixel values are converted to their binary equivalent and a length equalization is carried out. In text file compression, encoding and decoding are done by identifying the subpatterns and it creates a character dictionary for newly encountered character. The results show that LiBek II compression technique offers upto 63% memory saving and execution time than winrar and winzip.
