Effect of new operation point correction unit for a PV generation system with different directional PV panels

In this paper, authors propose a new method named "PV peak shift method", it adjusts the system to the maximum power point by shifting the maximum power point within the PCS input operating voltage. A developed prototype plug in operating point correction unit is installed between the photovoltaic (PV) panels and the PCS. This prototype unit has a configuration of a buck-boost type DC-DC converter. The P&O method operates at a lower peak point voltage when there are two peaks in the P-V curve. To overcome this issue, in the present study the proposed unit outputs the P-V characteristics that indicates higher peak point voltage. The result shows, after applying the PV peak shift method, the PCS is able to operate at the maximum power point even in cases of different directional PV panels placement. Furthermore in this experiment the generated power has increased about 1.47 time as compared with the conventional P&O method and, the effectiveness of the prototype unit is proved.
