Modeling dielectric waveguiding structures with the method of lines

This paper discusses the method of lines and its application for generating the 2-D spatial distribution of vectorial mode fields supported by inhomogeneous waveguiding structures. Our formulation has been validated by comparing computed field distributions and mode wave impedances with analytic solutions and numerical results obtained from the literature when available. A complete analysis of an optical dielectric waveguiding structure is given along with an assessment of the accuracy of our technique.
