Modelling of human exposure to various sources of 60 Hz magnetic fields

The knowledge of induced currents in the human body from exposure to various sources of power line frequency magnetic field is important in the assessment of potential health hazards. This paper briefly outlines methods of computations of magnetic fields from sources such as high-voltage transmission lines or other line current-carrying conductors, and from small appliances. To compute the induced currents, the impedance method is used for realistic models of human body. Differences in level and distribution of induced currents are discussed for a uniform magnetic field, that in the vicinity of a three phase power-line representing exposure of a lineman, and a person using a hand-held appliance such as a hair-dryer.
