On the elimination of backscattering from straight wire systems

Elimination of backscattering from a loaded straight wire scatterer and a multiply loaded parallel wire system scatterer has been considered. The problem is formulated in terms of surface integral equation based on the reaction concept. The unknown is the surface current which can be calculated using the method of moments. Appropriate loads have been determined yielding zero backscattering at a specified frequency for a plane wave incident on the wire system at any direction. A “frequency bandwidth for echo reduction” (FBER) has thus been defined for satisfactory operation of the loaded wire system. It has been found that if the center frequency is such that the wire is half-wave long, large FBER is obtained, reaching 55% of center frequency for 30 db reduction of backscattering keeping the loading determined at center frequency for zero backscattering unchanged.
