Selection of suitable strategy with peak load shifting based DSM strategy of standalone integrated renewable energy system for a remote rural area

The present work focuses on an optimal sizing of an integrated renewable energy (IRE) system comprises of locally available renewable energy sources with battery system to meet the load demand of cluster of five un-electrified villages in Karnataka State of India. Hourly load demand have been simulated using HOMER software based on three scenarios; high investment with low rating (HILR) appliances; medium investment with moderate rating (MIMR) appliances and low investment with high rating (LIHR) appliances. Simulation results of optimal sizes cost of energy (COE) and total net present cost (TNPC) has been obtained using genetic algorithm (GA) based on considered scenarios with and without DSM strategy. Obtained results of peak load shifting based DSM strategy compared with results of without DSM strategy. Based on comparison results; three scenarios based results with peak load shifting based DSM strategy found to be possible configuration. Out of these three scenarios; HILR scenario with peak load shifting based DSM strategy was found to be most feasible for the proposed remote rural area.
