Multisources and beam steered EBG antennas

This paper presents two developments for electromagnetic band gap (EBG) antennas. EBG antennas are directive (about 30 dB) and very thin (about 1.5λ
₀
). They are constituted of alternatively stacked dielectric layers on a metallic plane. This periodic structure allows a great control of the radiated power. A feeding on the ground plane (in our case a patch antenna) excites the structure. The first part presents a solution to increase the gain and the radiation bandwidth of classical EBG antennas using several sources to excite the structure. The second part explains how to design this kind of antenna to realize directive steered beam. The thickness of the different layers is function of the angle chosen.
