Systolic amplitude of photoplethysmogram among left ventricular hypertrophy risk and healthy individuals

This paper aimed to study the systolic amplitude of Photoplethysmographic signal in Left Ventricular Hypertrophy risk and healthy individuals. The systolic amplitude or the height of AC component of the Photoplethysmogram is proportional to the pulsatile changes in blood volume at measurement site and associated to the compliance of arteries. The systolic amplitude of two groups of subject comprising of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy risk and healthy subjects were measured and compared. The systolic amplitude was found higher in the Left Ventricular Hypertrophy risk subjects. In this study, the level of significance was set at p<0.05 representing 95% of confidence for a significant difference of p=0.001. The Photoplethysmograph Dolphin One system, MATLAB and SPSS version 11.5 were used in this study.
