DoA outdoor RFID locator — system verification report

The paper discusses testing the RFID locator system in real traffic in a 1 km
²
area of interest for localization. Digital processing of the signal, arriving to a 20-element antenna array at the individual receiving stations, is based on the direction on arrival (DoA) method. The achieved accuracy is typically within 1 m, thus the system met its creators' expectations. The paper describes the basic operating principle of the proposed system and compares the existing outdoor localization methods. There is also a description and the results of the experimental verification of the technology at two locations, including a determination of the localization error. The key idea is to use this technology in area of security application (especially critical infrastructures) and disaster management application.
