Path estimation for multi-carrier CDMA system with two-way path-adapted array antennas

For wireless one-to-one or cellular mobile communication using array antennas, we proposed a multi-carrier code division multiplexed modulation (MC-CDM) system with optimum path-adaptation of the transmitter and receiver array antennas [1][2]. This paper reviews the most fundamental one-to-one case of frequency domain multi-symbol array-enhanced Rake system [1] with performance analysis using a new code for MC-CDM. And we propose an immune-to-noise way of measuring path characteristics required for the proposed receiver and transmitter array adaptation, including path-wise arrival time, complex attenuation and Doppler shift. In the pilot intervals, the crucial part of measuring scheme at the receiver consists of taking correlation between the received coded pilot signals and its replica with hypothetical delay time, and searching for the peaks of the correlation at the path delays. Comments are given on extension of the proposals to cellular mobile multiple accessing in general.
