Design of adaptive infinite impulse response digital filter for Ultra-wide band optimum pulse shaping

The problem attended in this article is the design of an adaptive infinite impulse response (IIR) digital filter for pulse shaping to be used in Ultra-wide Band (UWB) transmitter and receiver systems. Existing UWB pulse shapers mostly use 2

order derivative of the Gaussian pulse as their impulse response. The problem is that neither of these Gaussian derivatives match exactly with the FCC emission mask as specified in IEEE 802.15.3 standard. Comparatively, a special type of UWB pulse obtained by combining together upper derivatives of the zero order derivative Gaussian pulse, theoretically gives a better match with the IEEE standard. In this paper parametric modeling using recursive least square adaptive filtering is used to determine the impulse response coefficients values of the UWB pulse. This is then used to design and develop an IIR pulse shaping filter. The solution provided is distinguished because of its simplicity and straightforwardness.
