Loss reduction of transformer for LLC resonant converter using a magnetoplated wire

To improve the power density of a switching power supply, we attempt to reduce the transformer loss using a magnetoplated wire (MPW). Contrary to using a copper wire, the use of an MPW allows for a reduction of the winding loss component due to the proximity effect. In particular, we investigate the 1-MHz LLC resonant converter using an MPW. A 4.5% decrease in the power loss is achieved, giving 29.4 W at 1 MHz and 1 kW.
