Evaluation of fuel cell train mass increase depending on conditions of line alignments

For the purpose of energy saving, a fuel cell train is attracting public attention in the railway field. The fuel cell train is driven by fuel cell and battery hybrid power, and stores energy in the form of hydrogen. The required amount of these power and energy are depending on the conditions of line alignments such as a gradient, a running distance. Therefore, in this study, we carried out energy simulation of the fuel cell train while changing the above conditions, and examined a tendency of the train mass increase. As a result, it was found out that a fuel cell train has an advantage in system mass compared with a battery train when a gradient becomes larger and a running distance gets longer.
