A new topology of energy router with multiple HVAC ports for power distribution networks

A new topology of energy router with multiple isolated HVAC ports is proposed in this paper. The topology is composed of several modular multilevel converters (MMC) and a cascaded multi-active bridge (MAB) converter. With this topology, distribution lines with the same voltage level can be connected together and switched seamlessly, even though the voltage amplitude, phase angle and earthing points are different. The connection of different distribution lines can improve the reliability and decrease the reserve capacity of power distribution system. In this paper, a 4-HVAC ports topology is employed as an example. The simulation results verify the feasibility of the proposed topology.
