Design of high torque PM vernier motor

A PM vernier motor generates high torque at low speed. A high torque design and the output characteristics calculated by finite element analysis are presented in this paper. Increasing the thickness of the magnets inside both the rotor and the stator is extremely effective for achieving high torque. The maximum output (pull-out torque) can be increased from 3.0 to 4.5 kW (1.5-fold), while keeping the maximum power factor of 100% and increasing the rotor and stator magnet thicknesses from 3 to 9 mm at the operating voltage of 200 V and synchronous speed of 100 min
