Experimental study of sound source localization using angular spectrum approach in the presence of artificial wind

The ability of the human ear as acoustic sensors in localizing and estimating the number of sound source becomes a major factor that leads to the emergence of research related to source localization. An acoustic signal received by microphone array as the sensor is a mixture of active sound sources. In the mixing process, a wind is one of factors that could cause the change of sound propagation. In this paper, we report sound source localization in the presence of artificial wind generated by the conventional fan in the mixing process using angular spectrum approach. The experimental setup is conducted in a room with dimension 3m×4m×3m and 628ms reverberation time. In this paper, we use 4 sources located at 50°, 80°, 110°, and 135° of the axis line. We also evaluate the comparison between the use of conventional fan and a bladeless fan. The number of sources can be estimated well by the angular spectrum method in the presence of artificial wind with average speeds which reached 2.35 m/s. In terms of source localization, when we use the wind of bladeless fan in the mixing process, the phase shift phenomenon is related to the previous research.
