Group successive ICI cancellation for MIMO-OFDM systems in underwater acoustic channels

Multiple input multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) is known as a high capacity system for data transmission over broadband wireless communication channels. However, the time-varying fading and Doppler effect of the underwater acoustic channel can destroy the orthogonality of subcarriers, causing intercarrier interference (ICI). In this paper, we proposed a combined scheme of minimum mean square error (MMSE) detection and interference cancellation to mitigate ICI. The received signals on the subchannels are divided into groups, which are detected in successive iterations. This algorithm reduces complexity and processing delay, improves performance bit error rate (BER) of MIMO-OFDM in time-varying underwater acoustic channel.
