Comparative study of WLAN dual-band monopole antennas printed and etched on paper and PET substrates

In this study, dual-band WLAN antennas using different low-cost technologies, already widely deployed in mass production industries, were fabricated and their performances compared. The antennas evaluated were based on monopole antennas containing either two cased annular rings or two circular disks. The antennas were printed either on paper substrate or on flexible Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) substrate, by using flexographic and screen printing techniques. To complete the comparative study, the antennas designs were also realized by aluminum etching carried on a PET film. In this paper, the simulated and measured results are also compared.
