Fiber optic evanescent wave sensor for the measurement of curcumin

A fiber optic technique for the measurement of very low concentrations of curcumin is presented. The fiber optic sensor outlined here is based on evanescent field absorption. A short uncladded portion of a plastic cladded silica fiber acts as the sensing region. In order to enhance the performance of the sensor, neera was used as an additional reagent for the measurement of curcumin. The experimental results clearly establish the usefulness of the present technique for the measurement of very low concentrations of curcumin.
