Chang'E-3 rover tracking using same beam interferometry data

Same beam interferometry (SBI) was employed in China's first lunar landing mission Chang'E-3 to locate the rover relative to the lander. We introduced the method used for phase ambiguities resolution to generate the differential phase delay and the method used to calculate the two-dimensional relative position between the rover and lander on the lunar surface with their angular separation in the plane-of-the-sky. The details of the rover tracking using the SBI data were also outlined. We then presented some results of the tracking experiments. The rover's motion could be accurately monitored and the accuracy of the relative position determination reached 1 meter level.
