Nuclei segmentation from contrast enhanced FISH images

Fluorescence in situ hybridization technique is often used for evaluation of HER2 gene status. This gene is amplified in more than a quarter of breast cancer cases. Accurate assessment of HER2 status is important since there is available treatment for HER2 positive breast cancers. Evaluation is done by finding the ratio of HER2 and centromere of chromosome 17 markers in each nucleus. The first step in most algorithms for FISH image evaluation is nuclei segmentation. A method for nuclei segmentation from contrast enhanced image is presented in this paper.
