Equalization techniques to ensure signal integrity in high speed serial and optical design

With the rapid progression of communication industry towards Multi-gigabit era, the existence of Inter symbol Interference (ISI) has been creating issues that require serious consideration. The advancement of world communication research towards 5G and upwards as well as further introduction of electronic devices designed for Multi-Gigabit data transfer have created an affinity for greater exploration on Equalization Techniques, Compared to the past with low data rates. Equalization techniques are used for ensuring that the receiver (Rx) measures the same pattern as the transmitter (Tx). Hence correcting the errors caused by transmission path is the said intention for utilizing Equalization techniques. In this paper, comparative analysis between different equalization techniques has been highlighted via Matlab simulation. Additionally, for high speed serial link design and Optical link, Advance Design System (ADS) and OpticWave simulations were performed and compared receiver output via Q-factor and Eye pattern, both with and without implementing Equalization.
