Review of mechanical system design via decentralized control techniques

This paper briefly review the application of decentralized control techniques to the design of passive mechanical systems and the integrated design of active-passive mechanical systems in the past two decades. A design example: Six-DOF TMD for six-DOF isolation is presented to illustrate the design of passive systems using decentralized control techniques achieving optimal H

performance. After several turns of adjustments online around the designed parameters, a well-tuned system was obtained, in which all the six modes are damped well by a single absorber.
