A statistical model for predicting flashover of outdoor insulators

This paper presents a statistical model for flashover prediction of outdoor insulators in service. The model is based on experimental data obtained from a wide variety of insulator shapes and materials. A sensitivity analysis of different parameters is performed. The model is shown to be capable of handling a number of factors commonly encountered, like materials with different wettabilities, contamination severity and shapes.
