Influences of transmission tower anticorrosive coatings on electrical performance of composite insulator

With the advantage of low costs and simple construction process, anticorrosive coatings are widely applied to prevent rusting corrosion of transmission tower, which is a common problem of power transmission project. The coating system is composed of zinc-rich epoxy primer, epoxy micaceous iron oxide intermediate and acrylate topcoat. However, though not allowed, sometimes anticorrosive coatings dripped on the surface of composite insulators during the construction process, which is likely to do harm to electrical performance of composite insulators. In order to investigate these influences, we studied the effect of the anticorrosive coating on the properties of silicone rubber, and measured the hydrophobicity of HTV specimen and the flashover voltage of polluted composite insulator before and after being coated with rust preventive paint. It is concluded that anticorrosive coating will decrease the hydrophobicity transfer property and the flashover voltage of the sample.
