The bigger picture: Tim Peake's return

International Space Station (ISS) crew members Tim Peake of Great Britain, Yuri Malenchenko of Russia and Tim Kopra of the USA, returned to Earth as scheduled on 18 June. The Soyuz TMA-19M capsule landed at 3:15pm local time around 90 miles from the town of Zhezkazgan in Kazakhstan. Helicopters circling nearby brought recovery teams to the landing site. The teams helped the astronauts out of the Soyuz, putting them in chairs for a brief medical check-up before being flown to their bases. Peake, Malenchenko and Kopra spent 186 days in space. Malenchenko has now completed six missions, totalling 838 days in space, second only to Russia's Gennady Padalka.
