Pyroelectric detectors for IR/THz waves based on amorphous Y-Ba-Cu-O: Analytical modeling of the observed fast response

The sensitive and fast response of infrared (IR) detectors exploiting the pyroelectric effect in semiconducting and amorphous Y-Ba-Cu-O (a-YBCO) has been previously reported. We are proposing an analytical model that explains the very fast response of those devices, i.e. 2 to 4 orders of magnitude faster than the regular pyroelectric detectors, while keeping a competitive sensitivity in terms of IR detectivity. This model allows to simulate the amplitude and phase response as a function of the modulation frequency of the IR power between a few tens of Hz up to a few MHz. All the model parameters reflect the measured a-YBCO properties and device characteristics, without adjustment.
