Integrated test van for maintenance and diagnosis of power transformers

A concept of an integrated transformer test van is introduced in the paper. Several routine electric test techniques (insulation testing, winding resistance, ratio and vector group testing) and advanced diagnostic methods (DFR, SFRA) are at the core of the system. A central control and reporting computer and test leads that are shared among different instruments help to facilitate the workflow. Limited number of cables connects the vehicle with the test object. All required test circuits are prepared (internally interconnected) by the software selection. As a result testing times are reduced substantially and accidents prevented (no need to climb every time to change leads). On demand the van can be equipped with additional test methods such as power loss measurement at reduced voltage, 100 kV HV source for withstand testing, oil breakdown test set and so on.
