Modelling of thermal processes in the cutting insert with a protective coating

A mathematical model of the temperature distribution in the cutting insert at cutting was developed. The thermal field in the cutting insert coated by protective film was modeled using numerical methods for various boundary conditions. The numerical solution of the heat equation with the given boundary conditions and conjugation conditions at the interface between the protective film (HfB
₂
) and hardalloyed cutting insert (VK8) was found by the alternating direction implicit method (Peaceman-Rachford method). The use of implicit finite-difference scheme ensures absolute stability of given problem solution. A numerical calculation of the temperature field of the modeled system was programmatically implemented.
