Analysis and optimization of economic load dispatch using soft computing techniques

In this modern era, Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) is one of the essential issues of apprehension in power system process and scheduling. The cost function for each unit in ELD problems is resolved by using mathematical or analytical methods in conservative computation. So, the certain ELD problem is signified as a non linear optimization problem having both equality and inequality constraint that cannot be directly solved by conservative analytical techniques. Subsequently, in order to solve this ELD problems evolution of soft computing methods and many other prominent approaches have been successfully implemented such as numerical method, genetic algorithm, evolutionary programming, neural network tactics, particle swarm optimization and some other hybrid methods. The one of the optimization techniques proved to be efficient over the past few years is the Genetic algorithm. So in this paper by using Genetic Algorithm (GA) method, we have offered the solution of an economic load dispatch problem of thermal generator. This suggested method has been implemented on 3 generator system and 6 generator systems and the system is to be considered a lossless system. Finally, the result shows a significant improvement in generator fuel cost as compared to conventional techniques despite the fact that it satisfies the various equality and inequality constraints.
