Design of wind speed estimator using ANN techniques for WECS

The amount of energy extracted from the wind energy system not only depends on the wind regime but also the control strategy incorporated. This paper presents the concept of extracting maximum power from a wind turbine generating system. An ANN based wind speed estimator is designed which would give the desired wind speed required to deliver maximum power. The proposed control strategy would deliver maximum electric power to the utility grid with light weight, high efficiency, and high reliability without mechanical sensors.
